CandyCandyCandy

I have an addiction...

The last few weeks I ate nothing but candy... It is so good. Chocolate, winegums, cake, pie.. everything!

Everyday I tell myself that I need to quit but it seems that I love it too much.

My opinion about the article below

My opinion

First of all I did not sign up for this education to become a bad teacher. No one did, I hope. Every teacher who has a diploma have the freedom to teach and to continue teaching because her/his diploma proves that she/he has license to teach. However, there are still teachers who prove opposite despite the diploma.

First we need to identify what bad teachers are: no passion for teaching, no complete knowledge, cannot cross information over, no respect, do not know how to keep order etc. If this is the case then yes, you should fire those teachers. It is a major problem of course that we have a lack of teachers. However, is it better to have no teacher at all? It is proven that some teachers do more damage when they are around. Therefore, it is better to fire bad teachers and search for new teachers, good teachers!

Hundreds of bad teachers sacked

Ben Russell Education Correspondent
MORE THAN 3,000 teachers have been warned and hundreds sacked in the past year over the standard of their work, according to the first such statistics to be collected.
Six hundred lost their jobs and 440 are still under review, figures from local authority employers disclose. An estimated total of about 6,000 staff - 2 per cent of serving teachers - will eventually go through the capability procedures.
The survey by the National Employers' Organisation for School Teachers found that only 29 were sacked under new "fast-track" procedures for removing staff. About 200 whose work was questioned had improved. More than half the cases were dealt with informally.

The statistics will reopen a long-running debate about the number of incompetent teachers in schools. They contrast sharply with claims made by Chris Woodhead, the chief inspector of schools, who has said that as many as 15,000 staff are consistently teaching unsatisfactory or poor lessons.
Graham Lane, chairman of the employers' organisation, said claims about the numbers of incompetent teachers had been "grossly exaggerated".
He said: "There are probably 2 or 3 per cent of people in any job who should not be doing it. I also fully expect the number to drop because the Government has reintroduced the induction year for new teachers. This was abolished by the last Government and some people slipped through the net who shouldn't have. Now staff who fail their induction year will have their licences to teach removed."
The figures are based on a survey of 116 of the 172 local authorities in England and Wales. It found that 1,800 staff were subjected to informal procedure, although there is no record of whether they subsequently lost their jobs.
Under new rules, staff whose standards cause concern are monitored for a year and have to improve or face the sack. But fast-track procedures can remove teachers in as little as four weeks.

Doug McAvoy, general secretary of the National Union of Teachers, said: "I was confident the exaggerated claims of the chief inspector could finally be disproved. These figures do that. Parents can be assured that the vast majority of the 450,000 teachers in our schools are doing a satisfactory job or better and that the claims of Chris Woodhead should be ignored.

"GCSE and A-level results show how successful schools are today and the hard work and dedication of teachers should be celebrated along with the achievements of their students."

Hamlet's duality

Hamlet has many characteristics. This is best shown in his soliloquies. One of his famous soliloquy is ‘to be or not to be.’ Hamlet has shown many sides of him: he is melancholy; he is critical; he is full of hatred for his uncle and his mother’s sexuality and yet his position as a tragic hero is supreme.

What clearly has been stated in Hamlet is that he had the feeling that he could not cope anymore. He desperately wanted to escape from his life, because he hated it so much. ‘Thaw and resolve itself into a dew,’ he mentioned. Which means he wishes that his ‘flesh would melt. ’ Furthermore, his mother’s treachery against his father ribs the very last breath out of Hamlet’s being. He is enraged that his uncle married his mother after a small period of time. Hamlet tortures himself by recalling his precious moments with his father’s tenderness towards his mother. After having a little chat with the ghost, Hamlet his anger had grown inside and gave him the motivation to do what had to be done: killing his uncle. After a while Hamlet could not kill his uncle therefore Hamlet had to create a mask because he had to act insane because then his uncle had to leave to England.

The insanity became useful at that time because it gave him power to get rid of his father’s killer: his uncle. Because of his weaknesses and his flaws he became a tragic hero. It is his character which leads him to death, his own death, because of his major weakness. He portrays a person with irresolution, the uncertainty of how to act, which is shown in many soliloquies and merely when he had to make a decision whether or not to kill his uncle.

Hamlet, who is devastated of his father’s death cannot follow his task through. Hamlet’s delay in punishing Claudius, his uncle, causes his own death but also causes death of many other people. He is too late to achieves his outcome, which is therefore a tragedy. And that makes him a hero.

It is soooooo unfair....

We need to work on TESG: teaching English School Grammar. We will need to make an individual portfolio which contain a lot of assignments and we will have an oral. This, however, is in groups of 4. When everybody is finished with their portfolio you can sign up for the oral. 2 members of my group are disrespectful and they do not want to wait for Amance and I. We try our best but somehow we need more time to finish our stuff. I thought it was a good idea to have the oral after the May break because then Amance & I will have some time to finish it during May break. And that is duable. But the other members won't cooperate. It is unfair... because they know we care and work hard.

We will see...

PHONETICS SUCKS

Well, I had my phonetics exam today. I studied as hard as I could. I thought I knew everything but that changed quickly. I saw the test and it was rather difficult! My teacher told me that it was easy... but it wasn't. We had two hours to complete the test and I needed those two hours. I was fully prepared. I bought some candy and I had a bottle of water and I had a pen and a paper to write on. I had Amance in front of me and I had Linda behind me! You can ask now: what can go wrong? Well, everything! Linda left after 30 minutes, Amance left after one hour and I sat there waiting to have an epiphany. I was waiting... and waiting... and waiting... AND waiting but it didn't come. However, I managed to fill in everything and I finished one minute before deadline! NOW, I just need to pray and pray. I need to bribe the teachers I think! This will influence the person's view on my test!

I NEED, WANT, MUST PASS PHONETICS!!!!

Well...

This is the way I feel right now.

Sentence Analysis

Ouch, sentence analysis is hard. Really hard! Actually, I do not understand it at all! You have a sentence and in the sentence you have clauses and in the clauses you will have subject, predicator, conjuctions(which you need to divide in subordinating conjuction and coordinating conjunctions). I can go one but you won't understand I suppose. Nevertheless, it is a lot. I have the test tomorrow and I am asking myself right now how I will survive. I do not know. Of course, I will have several changes to pass this test. Although, I want to pass it tomorrow.

I CAN, I WILL, I MUST!

Teaching practice

Ok. My coach from Windesheim came to Emmeloord today to see how I teach. It went ok! He was satisfied enough.

Thank god

Hmmm, homework. I need to do a lot. Sentence analysis, tesg, lan, drama, brp, teaching practice. You name it. Next week we will have a test week. I have 4 tests: Oral, writing, sentence analysis and at least phonetics! I need to pass phonetics! Otherwise, I am not welcome anymore.

Pray for me

Worldwise week

Worldwise week is about sharing each others passion. A lot of teachers come from different kind of countries: India, Kenia, Indonesia etc. I have two lovely women who are from Indonesia. They shared their passion about teaching. However, for them it is completely different because they do not have the materials we have and they do not have enough classrooms for their students. The solution for them is to teach a class that consists out of 50 - 60 pupils. Which is a lot of course. She told me, Sri, that her pupils are demotivated and she wants to motivate them. We told her that she can use some English games or that she has to take into account their frame of references. We had two workshops today and one was about the passion and the other one was about similarities and differences between Indonesia and Holland! It was informative. We discussed about it and we decided that Holland inhabitants are spoiled. Not all of them though but the most of them are. I am spoiled as well. Later on the day we were formed in groups. We had to come up with a solution or an idea for Sri's problem: learners have a lack of motivation. We decided that it was fun to create a language villages over there and we come up with a lovely idea: we are going to put ourselves on camara and we tell that it is important to learn English. We give this film to Sri and she can show it to her pupils. We will give our e-mail addresses, because we want to motivate them to sign up and to talk with us in English of course, because we can't speak their language. Tomorrow we will have another workshop and we will work on our presentation for Friday. We need to presentate what we have learned and what we come up with for a solution to Sri's problem. Friday we need to prepare a Dutch breakfast for the quests. It is funny though, because Sri and Amy told us that they eat rise three times a day. They do not eat bread or eggs or potatoes etc. Friday in the evening the quests will leave to their country again, I suppose. I am not sure though. After Friday the normal school week starts again and then we need to work hard again and after that week we will have tests and we need to hand in portfolios.

Wish me goodluck!

Oh Boy...

I am talking with a boy for a couple of weeks now and we planned to have a date on Saturday evening. This is our first date. We decided that I will go to Amsterdam by train in the evening, because I have to work on Saturday. I told my mum that it wasn't a good idea for me to go back late in the evening by train because that is too scary! So I explained that I am going to stay with him and that I will stay a night with him. She told me that it was okay! So up comming Saturday I will go to Amsterdam!!!

I am little bit afraid though

Can't anybody see we have got a war to fight?

Every single day children are victims of child abuse. 107,000 children are abused the past year. There are a lot of commercials on TV regarding child abuse. Everybody knows the commercial where a child, who was visiting his grandma and granddad with his parents, needs to get into the car and when he opens the door there are letters that say: I wish you were never born. It breaks my heart to see this because we all know that this kind of things happen in this world.

It is sad.

Too Early...

Yesterday I went to bed around 00.00 o'clock because I had to finish my homework. I started with writing 'letter to the editor.'' I write about the Swedish cartoonist. I needed to get up around 6 o'clock because I had to leave around 7. But I overslept. I woke up around 6.45. I asked my mum is she could bring me to the busstation. She said yes. I slept in the bus. I woke up in Emmeloord which was fine, because I had to get out of the bus in Emmeloord.

.... Wait I need to help a learner....

He recognized his footsteps...

A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet. He held up a sign which said: "I am blind, please help." There were only a few coins in the hat.

A man was walking by. He took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat. He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words. He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by would see the new words.

Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy. That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were. The boy recognized his footsteps and asked, "Were you the one who changed my sign this morning? What did you write?"

The man said, "I only wrote the truth. I said what you said but in a different way."
What he had written was: "Today is a beautiful day & I cannot see it."

Be thankful for what you have!

Boysboysboys!

Last Friday I had a date with Tristan. He is 23 years old. He is actually not the type which I date often or like but I thought let's give him a chance. So I did. He picked me up and we went to a café by car. We drunk a few drinks and we talked and laughed a lot. After a while we decided that we wanted to go pooling. I told him that I wasn't that good but I found out that he wasn't either! hahah. However, I lost all the matches. The date lasted till 01.00 o'clock. It was a nice date with a nice guy.

Still he isn't my type but I gave him a chance!

It was a lovely evening though!

Tired

Friday evening was a lovely evening. I came home at 01.00 o'clock. Which I thought was not that late. However, I woke up at 17.00 o'clock!!! I slept for 16 hours! And I planned to go out that evening so again, I went to bed around 2 o'clock and I couldn't sleep the entire night. Now I am really tired. I have to go to work about one hour. Maybe I will fall a sleep during work.

We will see.

Annoying!

Men, it's so annoying parents: Clean up this mess, do this, do that... My god leave me alone people! It is time to find a room for myself! Far away from home! I am not saying that it's sometimes helpful to live at home, they care for you, they love you and they need you and sometimes it's not fun to admit but I need them too. But dear lord god, would you please make them less annoying.

Amen!

donderdag 25 februari 2010

Day Off, Yippie yah jeej...

It sounds great a day off, and it was to a certain point, but it was kind of annoying though. I woke up at 11 o'clock and I went downstairs but there was my dad. He told me to clean up my room and to do the dishes. You may imagine that I was pissed. I mean it is not a lot what he asked me but it was just annoying because I had planned other stuff. First I wanted to my homework: Sentence Analysis and Phonetics. What I did. And after homework I was tend to do nothing really. I mean, HOLIDAY! It is always the same here at home. When my father has a holiday as well he is trying to act like a dictator, which works for him quiet well. In the end I didn't clean my room and I didn't do the dishes.
I listened to music and I phoned a few friends just to talk about random topics. Furthermore I watched two and a half men, which is hilarious! They have a lot of humor. I love the kid! He is funny. It was a sitting-on-the-couch day. Lovely!

I will go to my friend tomorrow, because she hopefully passed her driving exam. I'll buy her some cake. If she doesn't make it, she has cake and when she does make it she has cake. I mean, what more do you want? It's probably going to be a chocolate cake! That works pretty good for all women!

Tomorrow again a sitting-on-the-couch-doing-nothing-day. Sounds good to me.

Valentine's Day Facts

Valentine’s Day History: Roman Roots

Lovers’ holiday goes back to Roman festivals where men stripped and had goat-or dog skin and spanked young women in hopes that the fertility would increase.

Lupercalia was held every year on February 15. It was popular among a lot of people into the fifth century. The church named the festival to the legend of St. Valentine. The story behind Valentine is that he aloud marriages but then in secret because there was an Emperor who forbade men to marry. Therefore Valentine was executed on February 14. However it is not sure whether this legend is true.

Valentine’s Day 2010: Spending Takes a Holiday?

According the U.S. NRF, people spend approximately 14,1 billion on Valentine’s Day in 2010. However the numbers were 14,7 billion last year. Americans plan to spend more on Valentine’s day on each group(family, pets) than last year. According to Kathy Grannis is Valentine’s Day because it’s providing another way to make somebody else happy and show others your appreciation instead.

Valentine’s Day gifts go back to basic

Last year a lot more people spend their Valentine’s Day on an evening out or going out but nowadays people tend to buy clothes for their significant others. Men spend almost twice as much on Valentine than women do.

Valentine’s Day cards

The first Valentine’s Day card was sent in 1415 from France’s Duke to his wife when he was a prisoner. Valentine’s Day card went more popular during the Revolutionary War.
Nowadays the greetings card are the most common Valentine’s gifts. According to the Greeting Card Association 190 million Valentine’s cards were sent.
Giving one another a Valentine’s Day card is a cultural tradition in the United States. Hallmark started his business in 1913.

Valentine’s Day Candy: Cash Cow

Approximately 47 percent of the United States consumers will exchange Valentine’s Day candy. This is good for the sales. It adds op billion dollars. 75 percent of that billion is spent to chocolate. This can be associated with romance at least since Mexico’s 15th- and 16th- century Aztec Empire. The chocolate hearts for example doesn’t mean anything except: ‘Be mine,’ Kiss me,’ ‘Call me.’ Etc. A lot of candy heart were made last year. There were made eight billion candy hearts.

What is love? Evolution and Infatuation

Helen Fisher is an anthropologist and an author of several books on love. Fisher breaks love into three distinct brain systems that enable mating and reproduction:
- Sex drive
- Romantic love(obsession, passion, infatuation)
- Attachment(calmness and security with a long-term partner)

Those three play a role in love. Fisher added that only two of these three brain systems: sex drive and romantic love was used during Valentine’s Day. Fisher: ‘Once you start giving the dog a valentine, you are talking about a real expression of attachment as well as romantic love.’

It's sad, It's unbelievable, It's Sven Kramer

Sad, sad, sad. Sven Kramer actually won the 10.000m. but in his 17th round he made a big mistake! He decided(or his coach did, no one knows yet)to ride in the wrong course. When he finished he thought he won the race, but unfortunately he lost! Lee his opponent is number one and received a gold medal! Sven Kramer left the building immediately! However his coach was still on his but looking like he wanted to cry. The big question now is: who made the mistake? Did his coach tell him to go to the wrong course or was his pointing just a way of saying: Come on, SVEN! Or was it Sven who made the mistake himself. Maybe he was too busy thinking and forgot which course he had to take. Who knows...

Nevertheless it is sad, tragic and disappointing!

Amsterdam, baby!

It was a wonderful day today! I went to Amsterdam with my good friend Willemijn. I gave her a gift for her birthday and that was that I would take her to a Chinese massage. The idea was that those Chinese women would walk on our backs but they started with their hands. It was good! After the massage we went to a restaurant for a cup of tea and then we went shopping! We went to all the shops we loved, like: Berksha, H&M, Zara and of course River Island! It is a great shop with a lot of variety. I bought a new skirt. The fashion of today is sailor clothes, army clothes etc. I love the sailor line. Those jackets are beautiful! After shopping we ate Fallafel! I never ate that before but I love it, however it is not healthy I suppose. And we decided to go to the movies too. We went to Valentine's Day. It was a good movie with a lot of humor in it. We laughed a lot! It was enjoyable!

Happy birthday, Willemijn!

Homework... WHAT!??!

How could this be true? Learners who don't get homework at all. How great. But it is true. At my teaching practice learners don't have homework: never! I taughed a lesson yesterday and I gave the leaners some homework. One learner replied and said: Homework.. What?!? We never have homework. What is homework? He asked.

I’m still dead, don’t you see? I died because I couldn’t stop the sun. I died. Inside where I am - I died.’

This is a wonderful sentence from the short story: stop the sun. It is about Terry who is a 13 year old boy and it is about his dad. His father acts a little bit strange. His eyes dissapear so now and then. He thinks of the past. His father has a so called Vietnam syndrome. Terry really wants to know what happened back then. He thinks when his father will talk, everything is going to be alright. But he thought wrong. Terry asked him what happened and his father said I’m still dead, don’t you see? I died because I couldn’t stop the sun. I died. Inside where I am .. I died.

Lovely! You need to read it!

Mar & Mir: Goodlooking women

We had a lot of fun that day. Actually our plan was to do our homework but we found out a lovely photo booth on my Apple from school. We made a lot of photographs that evening. Marleen stayed for one hour and we made pictures the entire evening.

This is not the worst photo. We have really bad pictures but we had a lot of fun that evening. I mean look at the picture on the left.

Ohh, on that bicycle

Unfortunately this sentence doesn't excist. How great wouldn't it be if this sentence really excisted. I always use the Dutch sentence: ' Ohh, op die fiets.'' It sounds good and everybody knows what that means.
I began at 9.00 o'clock today. This was the first time we had tutorial. Our group consists out of 9 people and we were there with the four of us. But of course I can understand why... it was carnaval last weekend. After the tutorial group I had to work on a group project. Only Szidonia was there, luckily. We had to prepare our presentation for this Friday. It is about the future tense. We had only 30 minutes to work on it, because I had to go to another class: sentence analysis. It was a lot of fun, difficult though. After a while I finally understood what the teacher was saying that is why I said: 'Oh, on that bicycle.' At the end of the day Linda, Rianne and I worked on BRP5. We read the assignment and we were fully suprised because it is a lot of work. A little bit too much if you ask me.

But we need to go on!

Teaching practice

My teaching practice started yesterday. I had to be there around 8 o'clock in the morning. I have a young fellow who helps me out. He is my tutor. He told me that he had to prepare a lesson for the afternoon. I asked him: ' maybe I can teach?' He said: 'Alright.' He told me that I have a lot of courage because the classes who I taught were difficult. Today it is my second day. The first two hours we decided to do several tests. The main problem in the VMBO is their motivation. My tutor tries it again and again to motivate them. I do this by taking into account their frame of references. I already asked what they like to do during the lesson. They said that they love to listen to music and watching movies and reading. My main aim is to motivate the learners.

Painting

I never knew that I love painting. If you look at the picture below you see a naked woman. I copied that picture and I draw it myself. I wanted to place it on the wall in the living room but my mum thought that It wasn't a great idea. Now I hope she would love it on her wall in her bedroom, because I am going to place that painting in her bedroom tomorrow.

Big Brother is leaving

No, I am not talking about the awful TV-show but I am talking about my brother. He is leaving to Canada this Sunday. He is gone for 4 months. Last night there was a suprise party for my brother. All of his friends were already here. I saw him walking towards the house and I told everybody to close their mouths. He came in and he told about his day. My mother, father, brother and I tried to do normal as possible. My best friend was there too. We laughed out loud but Sander(my big brother) didn't understand. He sat down in the living room and he turned his head the other way and he saw all of his friends sitting their and he was obviously suprised. The funny part was that he had organised a party for all his friends this evening. We had a great night. The party was finished at 2.00 o'clock.
